It seems as though the show may be heading towards the familiar, but always entertaining question of whether a soul can reside within a robot.
Are there real souls within these robots, or is it the complex programming given to them by humans who created them simply fooling us? Was Roots and Wrench’s love for each other real or nothing more than pre-programmed emotions kicking in? Who knows, but it keeps the show interesting knowing that these robots are acting so human that sometimes you forget that they are suppose to be robots in the first place.
I liked how the small town leader guy mentioned that Ruin is actually allowing them to feel as though they are human, since now like real people, they can experience and fear death, as evident by their action by the end of the episode as they long and cling onto life.
The ending of this episode was pretty good, especially how Casshern couldn’t stop himself from going absolutely berserk on the entire population who had been caught up in the nasty rumor that eating him would allow them to gain eternal life. Who knows why he snapped, considering he could have simply, I don’t know, jumped away, but regardless something from his past is influencing his actions right now. Casshern killing the entire townsfolk caught me off guard, as it was really unexpected.
Oh yes, I was quite disappointed the chick at the beginning of the episode refused to fight Casshern. I was waiting all week for these two to duke it out, since she seems like she can take him on. It was pretty disappointing she chose to let him go because he lost all his memories, thus it would have been meaningless for her to kill him right then and there without him knowing all the thing sins he has committed. I mean come on, just tell him what he did and get on with it.
