Gundam 00 – 01

Ah the other Transformers in Disguise show is finally back. Was it worth the wait? Never mind I doubt anyone has been actually waiting for another Gundam due to the previous two adaptations making the Gundam franchise a complete joke. But at least this one has one thing going for it; Gundam 00 has dropped that abysmal art style that has plagued it and numerous non-Gundam related shows in the industry lately.

Things start off in a war-torn town as primitive mobile suits are in heated battle. We see young kids who couldn’t be any older than 10 years old running around with rifles fighting in the battle also. Radio announcements can be heard about some rhetoric on how they are “fighting for god” and all shall be annihilated that do not follow tradition.

We concentrate on a particular boy. Rifle in arm he’s taking cover against a wall as the mobile suits around him fire round after rounds of ammunition at hostiles. Getting caught in the cross fire he keeps on running, however a mobile suit spots him and begins to aim for the boy. At this moment a laser beam from above destroys the very mobile suit that was about to kill him. Even more shots are raining down from above on the other mobile suits in the area. With all the mobile suits destroyed the boy looks above him to see a Gundam emitting particles of light in the shape of wings hovering in the sky. So begins Gundam 00 and the opening theme song begins to roll.

Impressions – Really glad they have a pretty normal art style now. Anyways, the first five minutes was definitely the best part of the show. Other than that, pretty standard Gundam stuff. The Gundam Meisters were introduced with their pretty nifty looking Gundams. Nothing really stood out, since I’ve seen most of all the Gundam related shows there are to see, so Gundam designs don’t really stick out anymore these days, unless they come out with another White Beard (reference to Turn A Gundam, the best Gundam show FYI) They did look cool I’ll give it that.

Can’t say much for the story, still need more background to understand what’s happening, but it looks like the typical Gundam politics going on. I’ll take the Celestial Beings philosophy on stopping war with war as it is, we’ll see how that goes as the show goes along.

As for the characters, they look like your typical pretty boys for the ladies out there. I did get a small smirk when I finally realized it was the VA of Kira voicing for Setsuna. I couldn’t tell in the beginning, he was doing his I have no emotion because I am a lone wolf voice which everyone can do.

Anyways I have some high hopes for the show because this seems to be the only mecha show that I am aware of this season that has the potential to be actually good. Lets just hope we don’t see the Gundam cliché happening, aka a colony being dropped onto Earth, that would be a total bummer and completely cheesy. I probably can count on two hands how many times that plot line was rehashed.
