It’s the year 2307 and Fossil Fuels are at an all time low. Solar Power has won the alternative fuel race and had become the dominant source of power. An immense array of solar panels of epic proportions has been built orbiting the Earth providing her with power. Transferring the energy collected by the panels to the earth are three “elevators,” or towers as they more resemble. These elevators from a person on earth viewing them would say they rise up to touch the heavens.

The three elevators are structural weak and each under the control of three separate groups: Americans form the Union, China, Russia and India compromise the Human Reform League, and finally the Europeans form the New European League, the AEU. From the first episode, a new private army has emerged, the Celestial Being, a group hell-bent on stopping war with war herself. As the intro itself says, Humanity has yet to join as one in the 24th century.

The episode deals with the Gundams’ second mission in Southern Indian in the Seiron Island. The objective is to stop the battle between the Sinhala and Tamil. Needless to say the operation goes without any major hitches. Observers of the outcome of the battle are perplexed as to why the Gundams had attacked both sides, leaving both sides at a disadvantage and weak militarily.

Having left the battle field first, Setsuna comes along a Union plane. From the plane emerges a hostile mobile suit, piloted by Graham Acre who engages him in combat.

Impressions – The first 10 minutes or so is what I hope this Gundam series doesn’t turn into, a political cluster fuck. Asides from whiney kids in anime, there’s nothing more annoying than watching old Japanese men blabber complete nonsense. This is Gundam, we all know it all comes down to the top brass picking out the largest object in space and hurling it into Earth or making some death ray of doom.

The action here was pretty generic to say the least. We’ve seen it many times before, Gundams tearing apart the generic mobile suits. I really miss the realistic battles of MSG 08th MS Team, those Zaku’s were pretty wicked in that one.

Hey, I noticed the Zaku model is gone. It’s in practically every Gundam series as the staple, predominant generic Mobile Suit that for most of the time just gets owned by everything and everyone with a beam sword.
