One Piece – 227 – 228

Oh my, what a bad ass episode. Admiral Aokiji completely destroyed the entire Luffy gang.

Lucky for them this guy is so laid back about everything he can’t seem to finish what he starts. Good thing too since Robin was pretty much a goner if he had really cared to finish her off. Robin is my favorite character in the show so they better not get rid of her. Odd thing is she still hasn’t done much of anything, literally, since she joined the crew she has done nothing but read books all the time. Makes you wonder what the hell she’s reading, steamy romance novels? How that makes her my favorite character I don’t know, but maybe it’s because she has such a mysterious background to her that hasn’t been explored much at all. Aokiji has given us a hint on her past, hopefully something the upcoming saga will delve into.

Anyways, when things started to roll, Aokiji was pretty much unstoppable. Luffy couldn’t touch him, Zoro and Sanji had no chance either. Aokiji freezes Robin completely from head to toe. Going in for the punch to shatter her frozen body, Luffy manages to move her out of the way just in the nick of time. Usopp and Chopper assist to take Robin’s body back into the Going Merry and thaw her out. Luffy tells Sanji and Zoro to go back to the ship also since he’s going to challenge him to a one on one battle. Also note that Luffy’s right arm is completely frozen at this point. Luffy manages to put up a pretty damn good fight … for five seconds … before he too meets the same fate as Robin. Aokiji realizes that this entire fight was just to buy time for the rest of the crew to thaw out their injuries, that Luffy went through with it knowing he didn’t have a chance. He lets Luffy live on the basis Luffy had killed Crocodile a long time ago and letting him live was a sign of gratitude.

Impressions – Really good one hour special. Not really sure if it was originally an one hour episode but none the less, what a great hour of One Piece it was. Comedy here and there, great action, and intense music to go along with it. Now unto the next destination, Water 7!

  • Well, be happy, Robin will soon get more screentime and of course more developement, or should i say much more? ;D Her background story will also be told, and it’s definitly worth the wait^_^

i find these parts of one piece excite me 10 times more than the long arcs could. It gives more of an adventure feel when you stop on an island in the middle of an ocean and delve into a battle right away.
