The group gets some well needed rest, but faces the reality of the earthquake’s impact.
First thing first, Mirai is completely normal in this episode. The bitchy attitude is nowhere to be found. It’s a miracle I tell you, even with all the crying she does at the end, it is more than acceptable.
What differentiates this episode from the previous four is that the show finally begins to focus on the earthquake’s impact on the citizens of Tokyo. What best establishes this is the scene in which Mirai opens the door to the church only to see the many deceased being mourned over by their respective families.
We see Mirai’s friend Megu who has lost her mother and the sad case of Old Lady Misako who mistakes Mirai and Yuuki for her recently deceased grandchildren in her period of grief. Mr. Furuichi, husband of Misako, strong spirited even after the death of his grandchildren and always willing to lend a helping hand, is another good newly introduced character.
My eyes might be fooling me but the character drawings are really ugly this episode. Oh well, what they lack in animation this time around they more than make up for with nice light and soothing guitar music used during the latter-half of the episode. I never noticed the music till now, but the selections they played were really nice and did a good job in setting the cool night atmosphere. Hell I might have to get the soundtrack later.
Overall a very light, yet somber episode.

I don’t think Mirai is normal this episode. If anything, she’s displaying behavior that is unusual for her; and perhaps for many people her age when they’re not busy putting up a front.
Whiny Mirai is the normal one. The person we meet here is someone new.
You mean her ability to actually express … gasp … sympathy for others? … a complete 180 from the first episode where she could care less if everyone died …. I guess it’s their form of extreme character development =)
