Guess what’s wrong with this picture.
Hint: It’s not the angel wings.
I’m not going to lie, I was still hopeful that Yuuki was alive still when I began this episode, but my small glimmer of hope was soon taken away.
At this point … I thought things were really going to turn around and Yuuki could be confirmed as being alive … he is carrying his own backpack after all …
Or … maybe not. Here’s the real backpack. Oh the agony! This is when you get those chills all over your body.
Well I was thinking to myself … it could just be any black backpack … but there’s the Fuji Staff Logo we’ve come to recognize.
Yeah … Mirai has completely lost it.
Here’s Yuuki asking Mirai a question, instead of asking Mari directly …
So Mirai has to do it for him.
On a positive note, at least something good happened when Mari finally reunites with her daughter Hina. At least one of my predictions was right from the previous post because surely I was a mile off on my first prediction of both Mirai and Yuuki finding their parents again. Hey, I like my happy endings.
So what are your thoughts?
Were you still holding onto the hope Yuuki was still alive despite all the “evidence” from the previous episode like me?
Are you enjoying the way the show is handling Yuuki’s death with all the clues they give to the viewer to come to their own conclusions before they do anything definitive? Or would you have preferred something direct and less The Sixth Sense (<– Hopefully you’ve seen it) in execution.
Have these recent episodes changed you opinion about the series as a whole?

NO!
“Have these recent episodes changed you opinion about the series as a whole?”
YES! In the beginning I really loved the story and the realism of the show and even the robots are wellmade and not like this stupid bipedal Gundamcrap but more like Ghost in the Shell.
Why did they have to use something like Sixth Sense? This hallucination/ghost part is really a turn for the worse in quality.
It was categorized as drama from the beginning on, so someone had to die but I always thought it would be their parents(well maybe they are next).
The small one shouldn’t have died! That’s not only because I’m sympathizing with Yuuki but also because it is a cheap try to provoke emotions.
There are a lot of drama animes in which it is equal to a death sentence being the most sympathetic character. I did not suspect TM8.0 to take the same turn!
No, recent events haven’t changed my opinion. Yes, I am still loving the show. Yuuki better not be a ghost, but as an hallucination he is great. It really conveys the feeling of despair and confusion that has driven Mirai to this state of mind.
From the start, Mirai’s state of mind has been the heart of this show. The earthquake and response are fully realistic. That doesn’t mean that the reactions of the characters have to be boringly normal. As far as I know, Mirai’s hallucinations are something that could actually happen, unusual as they may be. None of this seems like cheap trick to me, just strong emotional events.
I’m still on the fence of whether I like the whole concept or whether I agree with the execution, but I think it brought out more positives than anything.
It definitely is in the realm of possibility. The probability of hallucinations brought about by Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is very real, though not really sure which brings about the other, but you get the point. Mental trauma from an earthquake of this caliber was probably coming up in their “research,” and this was a very clever way of doing it. Hell, I was one of those casual viewers who never caught onto the whole thing until I read some of the comments.
If anything it has given a twist to a pretty stale and annoying (read: Mirai) series for me.
I still think they purposely made Mirai such a shitty emo girl so when they killed off Yuuki I’d have more compassion or whatever.
Here’s to hoping they finish off well.
Best show this year.
I was suspecting his death after first watching ep8, but I only got all the hints after reading the comments.
Later on the comments were just missleading. They really got me convinced there might be a chance for him to be still alive, although Mari’s reactions were more than obvious.
Also on other blogs they are still trying this coma-loophole.
Mirai will most likely end up loosing everything, probably ending up with Mari as a foster parent, and regretting her behaviour prior to the earthcake for her whole life.
“I wonder if anything good will happen in my life.
I’ve had enough. Everything’s such a bother.
THE WORLD SHOULD JUST BREAK!”
and then it broke completely.
TM8.0 just starts to become a moral story, teaching children to cherrish their loved ones and abandoning realism.
I still don’t really like this twist.
TM8 was #17 in the first 2ch best anime of the summer.
Now it’s #2 in the second.
Yuuki really pulled a GIGA… DAIJOUBU… BREAKER!!! on 2ch :3
“So this is Spiral Power, eh? It’s quite something… aaahhaahahaaha”
